IN THIS LESSON
Lesson 1: Just Because It’s Online Doesn’t Mean People See It
You heard me.
Just because your killer website is online doesn’t mean people will see it. You could have the best branding, fonts, photos, and whatever else makes a “perfect” website — but here’s the problem:
Forget about other people knowing your website exists — Google might not even know.
If Google doesn’t know your website exists, they can’t trust your website.
If they don’t trust it, they’re not going to push it to new users.
That’s a real problem.
Most people think launching a website is like opening a boutique downtown — you decorate the windows, unlock the door, and wait for people to walk by.
But online? There’s no "walk-by traffic."
You have to create traffic and earn trust.
🧠 Why This Happens
Google needs to crawl and index your site before it can show it in search results.
If you’ve never submitted your site or no one’s linking to it, it’s likely invisible to Google.
Even if it’s technically “live,” it’s buried — think page 43 of the search results.
✅ What You Can Do Right Now
🔍 Step 1: Check if Google Even Knows About You
Go to Google and type:
makefile
CopyEdit
site:yourwebsite.com
If nothing shows up, your site probably hasn’t been indexed. You need to fix that.
📥 Step 2: Submit Your Site to Google Search Console
Go to: Google Search Console
Sign in with your Google account
Add your website and verify ownership (your platform will walk you through it)
Submit your sitemap (usually:
yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml
)
🧠 This tells Google: “Hey, I exist. Please come check me out.”
📊 Step 3: Set Up Google Analytics (It’s Free)
Google Analytics tells you:
How many people are visiting your site
Where they’re coming from
What pages they’re clicking on
You can’t grow what you don’t track. Don’t skip this.
🧱 Step 4: Build Trust with Google
Google ranks sites it trusts. That means:
Add alt text to all your images (describe what’s in the photo)
Use headings (H1, H2, H3) to structure your text
Answer real questions your audience is Googling
Internally link your pages together
Start earning backlinks (we’ll go deep into this in a later lesson)
💬 Bottom Line
A website alone doesn’t bring visitors. Visibility isn’t automatic.
Even if you showed up online — Google hasn’t noticed you yet.
But now you know how to change that.
Let’s keep going. Next up: How to start driving real traffic — even if you have zero followers.
